Mokddeok Skewers (Pork & Rice Cake Skewers)

Move over sausage skewers — it's pork neck and rice cake time! Juicy pork and chewy garae-tteok glazed in a sweet-spicy sauce. Great in a pan, even better over campfire charcoal.

  • Pork neck (mok-sal)300g
  • Garae-tteok (rice cake sticks)200g
  • Salt1/3 Tbsp
  • Black peppera pinch
  • Cooking oil4 Tbsp

Sauce

  • Gochujang2 Tbsp
  • Gochugaru (chili flakes)1 Tbsp
  • Sugar1/2 Tbsp
  • Corn syrup1 Tbsp
  • Minced garlic1/2 Tbsp
  • Water2 Tbsp

Directions

    Cut the rice cakes and pork into bite-size pieces.

    Season the pork with salt and pepper.

    Brush the skewers with oil, then thread the pork and rice cakes on alternately.

    Mix all the sauce ingredients together.

    Heat oil in a pan and grill the skewers.

    When the pork is about 80% cooked, brush on the sauce and grill once more to finish.

Tips

Oiling the skewers keeps the ingredients from sticking and burning. Brush the sauce on at the end — it scorches easily.
