French Toast
Classic French toast made by soaking bread slices in a sweetened egg-and-milk custard, then pan-frying in butter until golden. A brilliant way to use up leftover bread for a quick breakfast or brunch — top with maple syrup or powdered sugar for a café-worthy finish.

Ingredients
Main
- White bread2 slices
- Eggs2
- Milk100ml
- Sugar1½ tbsp
- Butter1 tbsp
Directions
- 1

Gather the bread, eggs, milk, sugar, and butter.
- 2

Cut the bread into your preferred shape — quarters of triangles or rectangles both work well.
- 3

In a bowl, whisk together the 2 eggs, 100ml milk, and 1½ tbsp sugar until smooth to make the custard.
- 4

Soak the bread in the custard. Fresh bread needs only a quick dip; stale bread benefits from 2–3 minutes of soaking.
- 5

Melt 1 tbsp of butter in a preheated pan over medium heat.
- 6

Place the soaked bread in the pan and cook until both sides are golden brown.
- 7

Serve with your choice of toppings — maple syrup, powdered sugar, or whipped cream all work beautifully.
Tips
Double the sugar for an extra-sweet result, or reduce it if you plan to drizzle maple syrup on top. This custard mixture is enough for up to 3 slices of bread.
