Croque Monsieur
A French ham-and-cheese sandwich made by layering ham and sliced cheese between buttered bread, topping it with plenty of mozzarella, and baking it in the oven. The cheese melts richly and the top turns golden — best enjoyed warm.

- Sliced cheese2 slices
- Sliced ham4-6 slices
- Mozzarella cheeseas needed
- Butter2 tbsp
- Whole peppercornsA pinch
- ParsleyA pinch
Directions

Spread butter on one side of a slice of bread.

Place a slice of cheese on top.

Layer the ham on top as well.

Cover with another slice of buttered bread.

Sprinkle plenty of mozzarella cheese on top, then add black pepper and parsley.

Bake in an oven preheated to 180°C (350°F) for 10 minutes.

Cut in half for easy eating.

Tips
Use any cheese you like — cheddar, Emmental, Edam, Gruyère — about 2–3 slices per person. Bake until the cheese has melted and the top is golden.
