Chili Con Carne

During America's frontier era, Texas developed dishes with strong Mexican influence known as Tex-Mex. Chili con carne — often simply called 'chili' — is one of the most iconic Tex-Mex dishes and a favorite across the whole country. Enjoy it over rice, with nachos, hot dogs, or French fries.

  • Bell pepper1
  • Whole tomatoes (canned)200 ml
  • Kidney beans200 ml
  • Olive oil2 Tbsp
  • Water200 ml

Seasoning

  • Cumin1/2 tsp
  • Paprika powder1 tsp
  • Cayenne pepper1/2 tsp
  • Chili powder1 tsp
  • Salt1 tsp
  • Black pepper1/2 tsp

    Heat olive oil in a pot and sauté the onion, bell pepper, and garlic.

    Once the onion turns translucent, add the ground beef and cook, stirring.

    When the beef is no longer pink, add the paprika powder, cumin, chili powder, and cayenne pepper, and mix well.

    Add the whole tomatoes and mix well.

    Add the kidney beans (baked beans).

    Add water, salt, and pepper. Once it comes to a bubbling boil, reduce to low heat, cover, and simmer for another 15 minutes to finish.

Tips

Chili seasoning blends already contain a variety of spices, but adding a bit more cumin brings out an even more exotic aroma. Using store-bought chili seasoning works great, but try mixing your own blend of spices to make it your own.
