  • Water2 cups
  • Green onion1/2 stalk
  • Toasted sesame seedsA pinch

  • Gochujang (red chili paste)2 Tbsp

  • Soy sauce2 Tbsp
  • Sugar3 Tbsp

    Put 2 cups of water (paper-cup measure) and the rice cakes in a pot and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. If the rice cakes are frozen, soak them briefly in water beforehand.

    Once the water boils, add the gochujang, chili powder, soy sauce, and sugar all at once, stir until fully dissolved, and let it simmer away. It's handy to mix the seasonings together in advance.

    When the sauce has reduced and thickened, toss in the finely chopped green onion, sprinkle with a little toasted sesame, and you're done!
